Jeff Carey
The Green Beard

20+ years in the Information Technology field serving in technical and management capacities.
A lifelong outdoor and environmental enthusiast who brings you The Iowa Green Team as a grass roots organization dedicated to providing Iowa businesses, organizations, homes and schools with the awareness, tools and initiatives to lead them into the new green economy.
In addition to owning and operating The Iowa Green Team, Jeff enjoys fishing Iowa’s interior rivers, playing guitar and is involved in many other environmental initiatives. A couple of the more specific ones to Iowa are:
  • Authoring original Green articles in Hoopla Now  (CR Gazette) called Eco-Centric.
  • Creating and teaching new Green courses for Kirkwood College’s Continuing Education program. Initial classes are titled “What it Means to be Green”, and “Exploring Green IT”.
  • Creating and leading a monthly local chapter of the International Green Social event called Green Drinks in Cedar Rapids under the name of CR Green Drinks.
  • Various speaking engagements around the subject of sustainability as requested.

After receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science in 1992, Mike has worked diligently bringing online solutions to companies of all sizes. Mike has worked with hundreds of clients on the technical/hosting/programming side of website development, with a strong emphasis on Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing for high search engine results. Mike has written many articles on search engine marketing and trends which have been published online and has received expert status by Ezine Articles.

Mary Ellen is a valued partner working diligently with us on the content and structure of our Green Start programs through our TURN IOWA GREEN initiative.

Mary Ellen is the programming coordinator at Prairiewoods. Her role includes designing, developing and implementing programming that advances the mission of the center. Mary Ellen is also active in the field of holistic health, especially in the area of massage therapy. She has presented workshops and reflection days basing them on her experience with holistic modalities. Mary Ellen is a certified and licensed white-belt Nia instructor.

Emy brings motivation and creativity to our Green Start programs and has helped in contributing ideas to the guidelines in our Green Pledge initiative.
Emy is the Ecospirituality Coordinator at Prairiewoods. She provides ecologically-centered programming and services to those visiting Prairiewoods. She also focuses her energies towards improving the land health at Prairiewoods. Emy has a degree from the University of Illinois in Natural Resources and Environmental Science and a background in environmental education and land management. She loves animals, especially toads and turtles, the outdoors, reading and spending time with her family.

Iowa Woodworks

Dick is known locally as the ’round barns guy’, but to those who know him he’s much more than that. For us, he’s the man behind the award winning (well not yet) eco-friendly plaques made from 100% reclaimed Iowa wood that is presented to our TURN IOWA GREEN members for their participation in our Green Pledge initiative.
